About Us

Elly Schobel was born and raised in Germany. After graduating with a German Bereiter FN diploma she moved to the US in the '80s.

She spent the next 10 years exploring and traveling, so much so, that her mother had her address written down in pencil, since she never knew when her daughter would decided to move again. Horses were the common denominator in Elly's life, from talented Warmbloods to frisky Arabs, from her beloved Thoroughbreds to athletic ponies - wherever Elly traveled, she found a horse to ride.

During the '90s Elly bought and sold a number of QH and QH/TBs, as well as a skinny TB stallion 'By Birth'.  Intelligent, feisty, athletic, combined with a typical race TB conformation made this horse a challenge to train. After years of set-backs, Elly and BB finally forged a partnership which let them to many wins and placings through Intermediare 1.

Max and Lally-Lu - both found separately on the backroads of South Carolina-

In 1996 Elly founded her horse brokering business, during that time Elly met the horse which to this day has remained her favorite - Noteable. A massive chestnut mare, Noteable is one of just a few horses to ever win USDF Finals on both Coasts, as well as winning at FEI in Florida. At the age of 11 it became obvious, that Noteable would not have the nerves to continue competing at Grand Prix, so Elly and Noteable's co-owner and Elly's long time supporter Margret P. Blosser decided to retire Noteable at Dreamtime Farm in Lexington, KY.

In 1999 Elly and 5 of her horses moved to Colorado to train with Sharon Schneidman, while continuing to travel to Germany on horse buying trips.
During one of these trips Elly was severely injured and had to undergo 2 major facial surgeries within 3 weeks. To this day she has no feeling on the right side of her face.

In 2000 Elly took her 2 FEI horses and her 3 greyhounds to train in Germany. Upon her return, she contacted Margret P. Blosser and together they purchased a 50 acre farm in SC. The farm was later sold to Muffy Seaton and her husband and Elly moved to her current location, just a few minutes down the road from the first farm.

Dreamtime Farm in Lexington, KY is Noteable's new home and is owned and operated by Phaedra Spradlin and Carolin Walz, both of them strong supporters of Elly's and the breeder of Raison d'Etre and Raison de Joie, the next generation of Elly's FEI horses.

Arguably, Raison d'Etre is the best horse Elly has ever trained. Sired by Dreamtime Farm's stallion Regulus, Raison d'Etre exemplifies the perfect combination of TB and warmblood. Incredibly smart and athletic, he has been called a potentially international Grand Prix horse by 'O' judge Anne Gribbons, 'O' judge Axel Steiner and German 'I' judge and Director of the German Olympic Committee Christoph Hess. Raison d'Etre will compete in his first GP in 2008 at age 10.

Following closely in his footsteps is Raison de Joie - 2006 USDF Three Year old Horse of the Year. Both sired by Regulus, they share many characteristics, such as outstanding gaits, ability to collect and work ethics. However, their personalities could not be any different. Raison d'Etre is an arrogant loner, who does not like to be handled, especially by strangers. Raison de Joie is a funny character, who can not get enough contact with people. He will compete in FEI 6 year old classes in 2008.

Joining them will be Dame d'Allemagne, a imported Hanoverian by the renown stallion Don Frederico. Originally imported for resale, Dame d'Allemagne stole Elly's heart with her quirkiness. In 2007 Dame d'Allemagne was named 2007 USDF Horse of the Year.

Another first for Elly came in 2007 - her first homebred colt named Raison de Croire was born. He inherited his TB dam's outstanding hindquarters and correctness of leg, as well as his sire's shoulder and neckset. His dam, Linear Lane won the TB class at 2006 Dressage at Devon. She will be bred to Quattro B in 2008.
